The origins of Kiso geta (wooden clogs) are ancient. Approximately 300 years ago, the shogunate granted a certificate certifying that the clogs were made from precious Kiso wood. They were transported on horseback to distant Edo and Owari, where they gained popularity. After the Meiji Restoration, production temporarily ceased, but in the early Showa era, the beauty of the wood grain and color unique to Kiso nezuko (a type of wood), along with its lightness and water resistance, were rediscovered. Today, their comfortable fit is enjoyed by many. The smooth feel and rustic charm make them a product to be proud of worldwide. We craftsmen handcraft each pair, preserving traditional methods. While they may stain if wet, this does not affect their comfort. They are also resistant to rot. The sizing is close to one-size-fits-all; you can slip them on completely, or wear them with your heels slightly protruding for a stylish look. They make a wonderful gift.
