Product Introduction
1/32 scale plastic model.
Developed as an auxiliary fighter for the Bf109, the Fw190A series became a masterpiece fighter surpassing the Bf109. However, to address its only weakness—a sharp drop in engine power above 6,000m—the D-series, equipped with a liquid-cooled Jumo 213 engine, was developed. However, the desired improvement in high-altitude performance was not fully achieved.
Nevertheless, its flight performance at medium and lower altitudes was dramatically improved, leading the German Air Force to adopt it as a new medium-altitude fighter. Production of the first mass-produced D-series model, the D-9, began in August 1944.
The D-series consisted of seven types (including those only planned), from the D-9 to the D-15, with the D-9 being the most widely produced.
Due to its long, slender nose, it was nicknamed the "Long-nosed Dora" (LANGNASEN-DORA). The extended nose resulted in a longer rear fuselage and larger vertical stabilizer.
The later production models of the D-9 came standard with the Galland-Haube canopy, which had a larger bulge at the top.
The Papegai Staffel (Parrot Squadron) was formed within the elite JV44 (44th Fighter Group) under Lieutenant General Galland to provide air cover during the takeoffs and landings of Me262 jet fighters.
The flashy red and white striped paint scheme on the underside of the aircraft was intended to avoid friendly fire from anti-aircraft guns.
