About the Artist
Real Name: Enya Ní Brennan
Born in Gweedore, County Donegal, Northern Ireland
Enya made her solo debut with "Celtz" in 1987. After signing with WEA UK, she made her major label debut with "Watermark" in late 1988. The single "Orinoco Flow" became a worldwide hit, and Enya's unique music garnered acclaim on a global scale. In 1991, she released her second album, "Shepherd Moon," which reached number one in the UK and also enjoyed an incredibly long run, charting on the US Billboard charts for a total of 199 weeks (nearly four years!). Following her third album, "Memory of Trees" ('95), which included "Anywhere Is," which was also used as a Japanese commercial song, in 1997 she released her first best-of album, "Paint the Sky," tracing her career over the past decade. It achieved unprecedented sales of nearly two million copies in Japan alone. Her fourth album, "A Day Without Rain," her final work of the 20th century, included "Only Time," the theme song for the film "Sweet November," and "Wild Child," the theme song for the Japanese film "Between Calm and Passion." In 2001, to coincide with the release of the smash hit film Between Calm and Passion, Enya released a two-year limited-edition Japan-only album, "For Lovers - A Collection of Theme Songs from 'Between Calm and Passion'" (currently out of production), which also became a huge hit.
In 2005, she released her first original new album of the 21st century, "Amarantine," which was a huge hit in Japan, selling 600,000 copies! Then in 2008, she released her long-awaited seventh album, "Snow and Ice Melody," her first original album in three years and her first winter-themed album. In Japan that same year, she also appeared on the 59th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, solidifying her position as a nationally beloved female vocalist of Western music.
