N Gauge KATO Orient Express Basic Set To Model Railway KATO No 10-561 '88 7-Car (Europe Japan)

In the autumn of 1988 (Showa 63), an unprecedented train ran from Europe to Japan. Its name was the "Orient Express 1988". Departing from Paris Gare de Lyon on September 7th, the train traveled over 14,500 km by rail across the Eurasian continent, passing through France, West Germany, East Germany, Poland, the Soviet Union, and China, before reaching Hong Kong. From Hong Kong, it was transported by sea to Kudamatsu in Yamaguchi Prefecture, where it was refurbished for operation within Japan before running as a train bound for Tokyo. It was certified as the world record for the longest single-train journey, covering 15,494 km. The train then operated within Japan for approximately three months, generating considerable buzz, including its journey through the newly completed Seikan Tunnel to Hokkaido. After the service ended, the passenger cars returned to Europe, but some time later, in April 2004, Pullman car 4158 returned to Japan alone and was acquired by the Hakone Lalique Museum, which opened in Hakone in March 2005. This product is a re-release. Starting with this product, the passenger car set will include the "Orient Express" headmark for the ED76/EF81 locomotives.
