After studying painting under Suzuki Mannen, he studied design under Kamisaka Sekka. He deeply admired Ogata Kōrin and exhibited his works under the name Kōrin. He won an award at the 2nd Shinko Bijutsuhin Tennen (New and Old Art Exhibition) and continued to win awards at the same exhibition. In addition to his work as an artist, he taught at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and was considered a successor to Kamisaka Sekka, but he died prematurely in 1910.
