Reptile Nova HEATMAT-R600 L - 20W Adjustable Heating Mat 42x28cm

Why do reptiles need heating? Reptiles and amphibians are ectothermic, or cold-blooded, animals, also known as "cold-blooded." Although they produce metabolic heat, they lack the ability to maintain or regulate it. They must absorb heat from their surroundings. Although they cannot maintain a constant body temperature, they use homeostasis to compensate for changing temperatures. By controlling blood flow through skin tissues, they are able to increase heat loss or increase heat absorption. Reptiles also regulate their body temperature by moving between sunny and shaded areas in search of warmth or coolness. In their natural habitats, they often use surfaces heated by the sun, such as branches, stones, sand, or forest floor. How does a heat mat work? The heating mat allows you to effectively heat part of your terrarium, providing your animal with essential thermoregulation. It's ideal for heating the substrate by simulating sun-heated surfaces. The mat can provide a 24-hour heat source for various species of reptiles, amphibians, or invertebrates, acting as both a primary and supplemental heating device in the terrarium. It's important to also provide your animal with cooler, unheated areas to allow it to choose the right place to thermoregulate.
