Propanediol is a plant-based alternative to glycol. It is an excellent solvent for many raw materials (e.g., salicylic acid, ferulic acid, alpha-lipoic acid, powdered plant extracts, allantoins). It has a moisturizing effect, enhances the action of preservatives, stabilizes cosmetic formulas, and supports the penetration of active ingredients into the skin. Application. Formulas containing up to 75% propanediol are considered safe for the skin. It is most often used as a solvent for plant extracts, acids (e.g., mandelic or salicylic instead of water or alcohol), or other water-insoluble products. Propanediol enhances the action of preservatives present in the formula, allowing for their lower concentration. In cleansing cosmetics: shampoos, liquid soaps, gels, it has a foaming effect.
