Creating a bass distortion that maintains sound pressure while delivering a punchy, aggressive sound is like fighting a contradiction. If you seek tightness, you need to suppress the bass to prevent saturation, which often results in a lighter tone. However, boosting the bass excessively can cause sound saturation. Microtubes X is a solution to these issues.

First, the input signal is split into two signals by a low-pass filter and a high-pass filter, both of which can be set arbitrarily. The signal passing through the high-pass filter (mid to high frequencies) is distorted using CMOS circuitry, similar to other Microtubes pedals. The signal passing through the low-pass filter (bass frequencies) remains clean and unaltered.

By mixing the distorted high-frequency signal with rich overtones and the clean low-frequency signal, you can produce a thick bass sound while maintaining an aggressive distortion. Even if the strings are in poor condition, or the instrument's tone is light, or if it sounds boomy, the Microtubes X allows powerful tone control.
