MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM
MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM is used for preparing concentrated solutions to raise calcium levels in aquariums. The preparation is intended primarily for tanks with a predominance of SPS/LPS calcifying corals.
In case of lower calcium consumption, we recommend using the ready-made liquid preparation – MARINE POWER EASY CALCIUM.
The importance of Ca in an aquarium
Calcium is very important for the proper growth of calcifying corals (SPS/LPS) and for many marine organisms, such as snails and mussels.
Optimal Ca Level
The calcium level in coral reef waters is approximately 390-420 mg/l. In most home marine tanks, the Ca level should be kept as constant as possible, in the range of 380-440 mg/l.
Using MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM
In a properly functioning marine aquarium, Ca ions constantly decrease, mainly due to the consumption of calcium carbonate. Carbonates are consumed not only by calcifying corals (SPS and LPS), but also by mollusks (snails, mussels) and coralline algae.
Calcium depletion should be supplemented daily with MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM. Calcium consumption depends on many factors, such as water temperature, lighting, aquarium stocking, and others, and its level requires regular monitoring.
The more optimal the aquarium conditions, the faster the corals will grow and the faster they will consume calcium from the water. Therefore, Ca supplementation must be constantly monitored and adjusted to the aquarium's needs.
To determine calcium levels, we recommend the MARINE POWER XACT TEST CALCIUM. It allows you to easily determine the current Ca level and its loss, for example, over the course of a week.
Determining the average daily Ca loss
If the aquarium is inhabited primarily by calcifying corals, the daily Ca consumption can be significant and may vary from day to day, so we recommend calculating the average daily Ca loss. To do this, take two Ca measurements 4-5 days apart.
It is important that both measurements are taken at approximately the same time of day, and that a water change (if performed weekly) is performed at least 24 hours apart. This will ensure that it does not significantly affect the result.
In a properly functioning aquarium, the first Ca result should be higher than the second.
Then subtract the second result from the first and divide the resulting value by the number of days (minus 1) between which the measurements were taken.
Day 1: Ca = 420 mg/l
Day 5: Ca = 360 mg/l
Ca decrease = 420 - 360 = 60 / 4 days = 15 mg/l per day
The result indicates how much the daily Ca supplementation should be increased. If the result is 0, no supplementation is required. Please note that Ca consumption will increase as corals and other invertebrates grow in the aquarium. Therefore, this process should be repeated every few weeks.
Preparation and dosage
MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM is perfect for use in popular supplementation programs.
Preparation of 1 liter of the preparation:
1. Using a kitchen scale, weigh 55 g of the preparation.
2. Pour 800 ml of RODI water at room temperature (20˚C) into a container with a volume scale.
3. Pour the previously weighed 55 g of MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM into the container with water and stir vigorously until the crystals are completely dissolved.
4. Fill the container with RODI water to 1 liter (1000 ml).
5. If you need a larger amount of liquid, use the table below (use only RODI water).
2 liters of liquid – 110 g of the preparation / 1600 ml of water, fill with water to 2000 ml
3 liters of liquid – 165 g of the preparation / 2400 ml of water, fill with water to 3000 ml
4 liters of liquid – 220 g of the preparation / 3200 ml of water, fill with water to 4000 ml
5 liters of liquid – 275 g of the preparation / 4000 ml of water, fill with water to 5000 ml
The MARINE POWER ADVANCED method by Tropical is based on dosing identical amounts of three preparations: MARINE POWER ADVANCED CALCIUM, MARINE POWER ADVANCED KH/ALKALINITY and MARINE POWER ADVANCED MINERAL SALT, therefore it is important to prepare the solutions according to the attached instructions. Although it is possible to dose the preparations manually in the MARINE POWER ADVANCED method, we recommend using dosing pumps, which will make dosing easier and more precise.
Note: Both excess and deficiency of calcium can be harmful to marine invertebrates, therefore the calcium level in the aquarium should be regularly checked.
