A specially designed fall prevention barrier has been newly manufactured and reproduced on the driver's cab side of the lead car. With connecting parts, it can also pass through curved rails with a radius of 243 mm (C243).
The 223 series now features the same headlight illumination function on the 281 series Haruka when two lead cars are coupled together, regardless of the direction of travel. This function can be switched between normal and coupled modes using a switch inside the train.
