The rings are probably not stainless steel because stainless steel is coloured by the galvanising process. This paint is getting off the rings when you touch it!!! I will definitely not put it into my nose to get inflammation... my phone doesn't make the proper photo of the macro detail.. so it is not properly visible, but you can see the discolouration and the paint coming off... :/ dissapointed...
