◎How to choose “1000 words of gold”
The English text in this book is based on the 1000 headwords from its sister book, ``TOEIC® L&R TEST Gold Phrases.'' In this column, we will introduce how to select those 1000 headwords.
1. Convert official teaching materials released in Japan and Korea into text data.
2. Run the data through vocabulary analysis software.
3. Arrange the words in order of frequency and make a list.
4. Remove function words (articles, prepositions, etc.) from the list.
5. Refer to the junior high school exam textbook and remove junior high school level words.
6. Quantify the difficulty level of each word using ALC's SVL12000, etc.
7. Fine-tune the difficulty level from a TOEIC perspective.
8. Reorder the words by frequency and difficulty.
9. Carefully select words starting from the top of the list.
10. Add the words that were asked in the main exam from the "TEX file".
In addition to the above, we will also perform tasks such as separately compiling words and polysemous words specific to Part 1 (photographic description questions), organizing derived words, and checking for omissions in a commercially available vocabulary dictionary. Also, if new words appear in public tests taken during the work period, they will be added to the list from time to time.
The headwords for ``Kinfure'' are the ``1000 golden words'' that appear on the TOEIC test after going through this process.
