Greg Minnaar's signature tire, the Maxxis Assegai, provides reliable and predictable grip across the entire profile, regardless of lean angle.. The Assegai can be used front or rear for a confident feel, or as a front tire paired with a faster rear tire.

Technology:
3C MaxxTerra:
- Maxxis 3C MaxxTerra is an intermediate triple compound configuration used across our entire mountain tire lineup.. The 3C MaxxTerra compound provides better traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, but still offers better tread wear and lower rolling resistance than MaxxGrip, making it ideal for all-terrain riding in all conditions.
3C MaxxGrip:
- Maxxis' 3C MaxxGrip compound uses the stickiest, slowest rebounding rubber we offer in a mountain bike tire.. This high-grip compound is used by our top World Cup Downhill and Enduro World Series athletes and is now available in a variety of carcass configurations to suit all riders.
- 3C MaxxGrip + EXO carcass = Easy off-road riding in wet/slippery conditions
- 3C MaxxGrip + EXO+ carcass = Versatile off-road riding in wet/slippery conditions
- 3C MaxxGrip + DoubleDown Frame = Enduro Racing & E-Bikes
- 3C MaxxGrip + Downhill Frame = Downhill and Long Distance E-Bikes
EXO:
- EXO is a cut and abrasion resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tires.. This tightly woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring consistent tire performance. Choose EXO Protection for extra durability for gravel, cross-country and light off-road riding.
EXO+:
- EXO+ is a medium-strength puncture protection option from Maxxis suitable for all-round off-road riding and lightweight e-bikes.. We start with a durable 60 TPI carcass, add our legendary EXO puncture protection layer to the sidewalls, and finish it off with a small butyl insert around the bead.. The durable carcass and EXO material protect against damage from rocks and roots, while the butyl insert protects the tire from pinch points and helps prevent rim damage.
Double Down (DD):
- double down (DD) - This is our solution for enduro frame and e-bike use. Two layers of our lightweight 120 TPI carcass material combined with a butyl sidewall insert create a highly durable tire with more trail feedback than a tire with a downhill carcass.. The DoubleDown tires are slightly lighter than their Downhill counterparts, but it's the difference in "trail feel" that really sets them apart.. Some riders may prefer the highly cushioned ride that Downhill casing tires provide.
Downhill (DH):
- As the name suggests, Maxxis Downhill casing tires are designed for extreme use in all gravity conditions.: from downhill to bike park riding, from freeride to long distance e-bike touring. Maxxis Downhill tires are constructed with two layers of our durable 60 TPI carcass material along with a large butyl rubber insert that extends from each bead to the sidewall.. The butyl rubber insert helps prevent crushing, protects the rim from impacts and provides additional sidewall stability.
Tubeless Ready:
- Tubeless ready tyres offer a number of benefits to the rider: the ability to drive at lower air pressure, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance compared to tube type tires; and less chance of deflating due to the lack of a chamber. Tubeless ready tyres are marked with the letters "TR" on the sidewall.
Tubeless ready tires must be mounted on compatible rims and require the use of liquid sealant to maintain pressure.. Liquid sealants have the added benefit of sealing small punctures.. Be sure to check the sealant regularly and renew it as needed as it dries out over time.
Wide footprint:
- Wide Trail Design (wt) optimizes tread pattern and tire profile on modern, wider rims. Historically, tires have been designed for older, narrower rims, which can create an overly square tire profile, resulting in suboptimal performance.. Our Wide Trail tires (width 2.40-2.50 inches) Optimized for 35mm inner rim widths, but proven to perform in a range of 30-35mm inner rim widths depending on rider preference.
