Many of you familiar with VAG’s 2.0 diesel engines likely know about a common "weak spot"—the hexagon-shaped component that drives the oil pump, often referred to as the oil pump drive shaft hexagon.
Here’s the issue: Over time, the edges of this hexagon wear down. When this happens, it fails to transmit torque to the oil pump, starving the engine of critical oil supply. This almost guarantees severe problems like engine seizing or knocking down the line.
The good news? You can prevent this with a simple replacement of this hexagon part. A key warning sign to watch for: If your red oil warning light flickers at engine speeds between 1,600–1,800 RPM, it’s likely a cry for help from this worn hexagon.
It’s a small, often overlooked part, but timely replacement is crucial. Neglecting it could lead to costly repairs—not just for the turbocharger and bearings, but potentially the entire engine. Don’t wait until it’s too late!
