This large-format art collection (27cm x 35cm x 2.7cm) was published in 1980 by Sunbright Publishing. It's a complete collection featuring 100 full-color illustrations, commentary, a chronology, and an album. In 1973 (at the age of 33), Japanese painter Setsuko Mitsuhashi underwent surgery to amputate her dominant right hand due to illness. She continued to create with her left hand, but passed away at the age of 35. In her final years, she created many moving works inspired by her hometown of Lake Biwa and the folk tales of Omi. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of her death. Philosopher Umehara Takeshi, the editor-in-chief of this art book, was the president of Kyoto City University of Arts at the time, and he poured all his energy into writing "Legend of the Lake - The Love and Death of Painter Mitsuhashi Setsuko" about Mitsuhashi Setsuko's life. This deeply moving work has been republished this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her death.
