Country of Origin: Japan Shigaraki ware is pottery made in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Counted one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, it boasts a rich history spanning more than 1,200 years. The name "hechimon" comes from a Shigaraki artisan's term meaning "unusual objects." These vessels, like the various shapes created by nature and the individual personalities of each of us, possess a variety of expressions. They are imbued with the care and playfulness of masters who cherish "inhomogeneity." Made from Shigaraki's distinctive coarse red clay, they are thinly glazed and fired in a cooled reduction firing process. This series features a refined, clean form while retaining a subdued texture.
