Product Introduction
Fine Molds 1/72 Aircraft Series U.S. Navy F-14A Tomcat Gulf War Plastic Model FP53
When Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, the U.S. Navy responded by deploying its Carrier Task Force to the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea.
F-14 fighter jets, in addition to their primary role of fleet air defense, also served as attack aircraft escorts. However, Iraqi aircraft, severely damaged by Iranian Air Force F-14s during the Iran-Iraq War, fled without taking any hostile action upon hearing the radar sounds of U.S. Navy F-14s. As a result, U.S. Navy F-14s were unable to achieve significant success in the Gulf War.
The decals include one each of VF-32 "Swordsmen" and VF-102 "Diamondbacks" that participated in the Gulf War, as well as markings for an aircraft that shot down a Libyan MiG-23 during the Gulf of Sidra Incident (1989), an earlier battle between the U.S. Navy and the Libyan Air Force.
