Mario and friends embark on a slightly different adventure than usual. Super Mario RPG, originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System 27 years ago, is making a comeback on Nintendo Switch with completely revamped graphics.
■Story■ Mario heads to Bowser's Castle to rescue the kidnapped Peach. Just when he thinks he can finally breathe a sigh of relief after defeating Bowser, a giant sword suddenly falls from the sky. The sword plunges into Bowser's Castle, sending Mario flying with the force of the impact, and he sets off once again to find Peach. Along the way, Mario learns that the sword stuck in Bowser's Castle has destroyed the Star Road, which grants people's wishes, and that its fragments, the Star Pieces, have been scattered across the world. Together with the supportive companions he meets along the way, he begins his adventure to collect the Star Pieces and restore a peaceful world where wishes come true.
■Adventure through the field by making full use of jumps■ Use Mario's signature "jump" action to solve puzzles and explore various fields and dungeons.
■Companions who will adventure with Mario■Maro, a fluffy frog-like creature named Maro, Geno, a celestial messenger who has come to Mario World to retrieve the Star Pieces, and Bowser and Peach, familiar characters from the Mario series, will join Mario on his adventures.
■Battles Using Action Commands■ In "Action Command Battles," you coordinate your attack and defense actions. When you execute an action command during a battle with a monster, you can attack all monsters or reduce the damage you receive to zero. Starting with this game, if you execute consecutive action commands successfully, a "chain" will form, increasing your allies' abilities and giving you an advantage in battle. While you're getting used to it, there's also a support function where an "!" mark will appear at just the right time. Also, each time an action command is successful, a gauge will fill up. When this gauge reaches 100%, the three people in battle will combine their powers to unleash a special "three-person technique."
■Additional Features■ After the ending, you can now rematch some of the bosses you encountered during your adventure. Each of the rematched bosses has been powered up to be far more challenging than usual. Other additions include a "Monster List" that records various information about monsters you fight, and a "Sound Player" that lets you freely listen to background music from both the Super Famicom and Nintendo Switch versions at any time. (The Sound Player becomes available after the ending.) The "Enjoy" difficulty level makes battles easier, and adventure support features have been added, so even those unfamiliar with battles and RPGs can enjoy the game.
