Dutch Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki Hand-painted Salt Container with Cloisonné TG-011D

This pottery is representative of Kyoto. Its name is said to derive from the many kilns, including those of Kiyomizu Rokubei and Takahashi Michihachi, located around Gojozaka, the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Many of the pieces are painted using the overglaze technique, in which the pottery is painted after firing, resulting in strong individuality for each artist. These elegantly painted table accessories are characteristic of Kyoto ware. They make a great accent piece for your dining table. They would also make a wonderful gift for someone overseas.
