The shogunate granted a certificate certifying that the clogs were made from precious Kiso wood, and they were transported on horseback to distant Edo and Owari, where they became very popular. After the Meiji Restoration, production temporarily ceased, but in the early Showa era, the beauty of the wood grain and color unique to Kiso nezuko wood, along with its lightness and water resistance, was rediscovered, and now their comfortable fit is enjoyed by many.
