The [Nambu Tetsubin] is a traditional craft from Iwate Prefecture with a 900-year history. It possesses a simple and warm texture, and its appeal grows with use. The water boiled in it is rich in divalent iron, which is easily absorbed by the body and effective for iron supplementation.

Before first use, and after each use, lightly rinse the inside of the iron kettle, then fill it with water to about 80% capacity and boil for approximately 15 minutes. (The water may initially appear cloudy due to metallic odor, so repeat this process three times, and use the kettle only after the boiled water becomes clear.) If the kettle has been stored for a long period, perform the same procedure before use. After use, do not leave water inside the kettle; always transfer it to a pot or other container, empty the kettle, and dry it thoroughly before storing.

If rust causes the water to become cloudy, first rinse lightly, then fill with water to 80% capacity, and simmer for approximately 15-20 minutes with about one teaspoon of green tea wrapped in a cloth, being careful not to boil dry. This method utilizes the chemical reaction between tannins and iron to eliminate the metallic odor. Repeating this process two to three times will be even more effective. Afterward, rinse lightly and boil water in the kettle one or two times before use.

This is an original [Nambu Tetsubin] from our company, decorated with a cherry blossom pattern. The interior is coated with lacquer. The lacquer will wear away with use, but by that time, the kettle will have become more resistant to rust due to minerals and calcium from tap water. It allows you to easily supplement iron, helping to prevent anemia. Water boiled in an iron kettle removes chlorine, resulting in a milder taste from ordinary tap water. It is also excellent for brewing delicious Japanese tea and coffee.
