Harry Potter (Daniel Ratcliffe), an orphan raised by abusive relatives, learns he is a wizard on his 11th birthday and enrolls in a magical boarding school. While studying magic with his friends, he uncovers the truth behind his parents' death and uncovers a conspiracy within the school.
This is the first film in a fantasy saga based on J.K. Rowling's internationally bestselling novel, directed by Chris Columbus ("Home Alone"). There are plans to make a total of seven films based on the current work, one per year (the first three are already confirmed). Although they are over two hours long, they are comfortable enough for children and adults to enjoy without getting bored, and the mix of a strict worldview that is conscious of British sentiment is good. The cast of adults surrounding the children also includes many veteran British actors such as Richard Harris and Maggie Smith. (Matota Yasushi)
